About us

Our aim is help local people over short term crisis, providing emergency food parcels and support to individuals and families, we can also help you access debt advice and help with benefits through our partnerships with Telford Crisis Support.

We know there are all sorts of reasons that people find themselves in a crisis situation. Sometimes it’s not one dramatic thing, just a gradual decline into a real struggle

Here at the Foodbank we hear regularly about people in Newport who are struggling, missing meals themselves or missing meals to feed their children, but don’t come to us for help. Often it’s embarrassment that stops people, but we know that anyone of us could have a change of circumstances or a bit of bad luck. We know there is a bigger story and a real person facing a difficulty.

We opened our doors in November 2013. Many people did question then whether Newport needed a foodbank, but the steady flow of clients has shown that there is indeed a need.

We are not a big city foodbank and we are glad of that, but there are families and individuals who struggle in our comunity and we are here to help.

We are most proud of our role in helping get people OUT of hardship, the aim is not just to feed people but improve their situation. Over the years we have helped people with benefits, housing, getting out of debt, getting a job and even just form filling.

COVID-19 made this harder, but we we are are delighted to have returned to our support model and help even more local people. If you need help with benefits, housing, advise, we can connect you with a support worker. Get in touch to find out how.
